Stugfixarna Norge in Sjøholt

Stugfixarna Norge in Sjøholt

In the mountains near Sjøholt, just an hour’s drive from Ålesund (Norway), stands a cabin surrounded by hiking trails and cross-country tracks. The cabin was originally built by the Norwegian Red Cross, perfectly located for hikers and skiers during winter. After the original cabin burned down, it was rebuilt in 2002 – but without electricity or running water.

When Stugfixarna Norge arrived, cabin owner Runa and her daughter wanted a more functional and comfortable retreat – a place that would work just as well for two as for many, and that could be used year-round.

A boost for everyday cabin life

The old Red Cross cabin was built for function, not leisure. With small windows and a simple layout, the spectacular view was never fully appreciated. During the renovation, large panoramic windows were added, the loft was closed off for better heat retention, and the entire floor plan was redesigned.

The kitchen was moved, the former bathroom was transformed into a cozy game room, and a bedroom was converted into a practical bathroom with a shower and Cinderella Freedom – a gas-powered toilet perfectly suited for cabins without power or water. The cabin was also upgraded with a new solar power system and a water package, providing running water in both the kitchen and bathroom – a major improvement for everyday comfort in the mountains.

From chemicals to clean comfort

The family previously used a simple cassette toilet, which required manual handling of waste tanks and the use of sanitary fluids and chemicals to prevent odor.

With Cinderella Freedom, they no longer have to deal with any of that. The toilet is completely water-free, gas-powered, and made in Norway, incinerating all waste into a small amount of clean ash. The result is an odor-free, hygienic, and environmentally friendly solution that eliminates unpleasant maintenance while offering home-level comfort – even far from the power grid.

Norwegian quality for demanding conditions

Cinderella Freedom is made in Norway, designed to withstand harsh weather, cold, and high-altitude conditions – a reliable choice for anyone seeking a stable, water-free toilet solution for their cabin. The combination of gas operation, easy installation, and dependable performance makes it ideal for off-grid cabins like this one.

A retreat for young and old

With a new kitchen, functional bathroom, and warm, rustic materials in an industrial yet cozy style, the cabin at Sjøholt has become a place where both young and old can enjoy spending time – summer and winter alike. And at the heart of this transformation stands the toilet – a small but essential part of the upgrade: Cinderella Freedom – a smart, off-grid toilet solution that brings true freedom to life in the mountains.
